Lillian Jean Kaplan International Prize for Advancement in the Understanding of Polycystic Kidney Disease
The Lillian Jean Kaplan International Prize for Advancement recognizes individuals whose seminal scientific work constitutes tangible achievement toward improving knowledge and treatment of PKD. More than one prize may be awarded to residents of any country.
2024 Award Winner: Michael Caplan, M.D., Ph.D.
C.N.H. Long Professor and Chair of Cellular and Molecular Physiology and Professor of Cell Biology at Yale University School of Medicine.
Prof. Caplan earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard in 1980, and his M.D. and Ph.D. from Yale in 1987. He joined Yale's Department of Cellular and Molecular Physiology as faculty in 1988.
He has received fellowships and awards including a David and Lucille Packard Foundation fellowship, National Young Investigator Award from the National Science Foundation, and Young Investigator Awards from the American Physiological Society and American Society of Nephrologists.
Prof. Caplan's laboratory studies ADPKD, a prevalent and serious genetic disorder and major cause of kidney failure, working to understand mechanisms and identify new therapy targets.
