ADPKD Position Statement Published

The European ADPKD Forum (EAF) has published a “Multidisciplinary position statement on autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) care” in the Nephrology Dialysis and Transplantation (NDT) journal.

The article is free to download from NDT.

People with ADPKD often need ‘multidisciplinary’ care from various types of specialist doctors and other healthcare professionals in order to manage the various effects the disease can have on the body, on wellbeing and on family life. Throughout their life, ADPKD patients will see experts in diseases of the kidney as well as the liver, urinary system, blood pressure, brain, together with genetics, transplantation medicine and medical imaging.

The EAF position statement encourages these professionals to work together in a co-ordinated way to ensure that patients and caregivers receive the care and support they need throughout life. It also urges healthcare teams to help patients to be actively involved when decisions are made about their care, and about how ADPKD care is provided generally.
